I'm afraid there aren't any classes at Penn on Positive psychology or learned optimism apart from the Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) program discussed above. I even called the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania to double-check.

There is, however, an online program affiliated with Penn. It's taught by prominent positive psychologist and Harvard professor Tal Ben-Shahar, and is a 12-week non-credit course called "Foundations of Positive Psychology." Unlike many online courses, this one features weekly broadcast-quality video lectures in addition to normal course materials, opportunities to share ideas and network with other course members and the instructor through tools such as a blog and a discussion forum, as well as live, interactive events with Dr. Ben-Shahar. The current course is running from September 14 - December 7, 2009, but I don't know anything about future plans.

UPDATE: I've written a new blog post about the next session of this online course (summer 2010). Registration is now open.

To find out more about this course you can go to
www.sas.upenn.edu/lps/online/non_credit/fpp
where there is a FAQ and contact information.

I'm looking for a workshop or class on Positive psychology or learned optimism (as a lay person). Is there anything available at Penn?
